At One Artsy Mama, our goal is to provide “honestly doable” projects that anyone can create, whether you feel crafty or not.

What’s one of your favorite design pieces you have in your own home?

My favorite design piece is actually a roadside rescue! A family across the street had put it out for bulk trash pickup, and as soon as I spied it, I realized that although it was definitely worn and had some water damage, it had a gorgeous structure. I just knew I could give it new life, so I took on the challenge of turning it into something beautiful again. I stripped and sanded away all the damage, then painted it grey. Next, I gave it some “personality” by adding a stenciled pattern on the doors, a stencil on the top, and a fabulous teal knob. It lives in my dining room, where it perfectly coordinates with my painted table and chairs, and I love the character it adds to the room! I couldn’t be more pleased that I decided to give it new life instead of letting it go to the landfill!

What is your favorite design trend of 2017?

One thing I’m really excited about for 2017 is the new Pantone color of the year and how it’s going to play into home design. Green is such a fun, vibrant color, and it’s so easy to add touches of it to any room in your house. Whether it’s adding a few live plants or swapping out your clear glasses for emerald colored ones, you can add touches of color for minimal expense. Since it’s such a natural color to begin with, it’s going to be an easy way to freshen up your decor for the New Year.

Do you follow any other blogs for inspiration?  If so, which ones?

I am part of a team of ambassadors for Plaid Crafts, and not only do we share one another’s work, we also collaborate from time to time on exciting projects, like designing an entire DIY living room. So, naturally, I turn to this group of gals for inspiration {Cherished Bliss, Flamingo Toes, Petticoat Junction, Erin Spain, Pretty Life Girls, Made to be a Momma, Positively Splendid, and The Cards We Drew}. This fall, we worked together to create pieces including a coffee table, end table, planter, pillows, accent decor, and more incorporating greens, navy, and geometric patterns. We also each contributed pieces to a unique gallery wall, which we gave away to a lucky reader.  Here’s a peek at that room.  We were really proud of what we managed to create while all living and creating our pieces in different states!

Can you explain a recent project you’ve been working on?

The project that has been taking up the majority of my time since June is my first published book! I’ve written and illustrated an interactive workbook called Hand Lettering for Relaxation that will be released on July 11, 2017. It is currently available for pre-order at a 25% discount on the Amazon and Barnes & Noble websites and a 10% discount at Book Depository.

As far as physical creative projects go, I just finished a number of decor and gift projects for the holidays. I particularly love this upcycled mirror I “rescued” from Goodwill and transformed into a gorgeous piece of wall decor. All it took was a few coats of chalk paint, some distressing, some greenery, and a sparkly bow, and it looks completely different!
